Obama made the announcement in a speech to the Human Rights Campaign, a gay civil rights group. According to the Wall Street Journal, the President also called on Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and to extend health and other employment benefits to domestic partners of workers

@Chadoacdc it is stupid. look, yes you are right but you are totally wrong. it is one thing to say in the military you are not gay or straight or male or female, you are just a soldier. but when the military finds out you are straight nothing happens. when they "find out" you are white or black or male or female, no one cares. but when you are named gay, your career is over.

Lets just seperate the openly gays from the straight males, we can have "gays" only water fountains, and gays only buses, and so on and so forth... If you really look at the overall social rule that this policy exemplifies it is a notion of seperation. DADT allows for the seperation of straight from gays in the militrary by giving the possibility of eliminating them due to a factor of known exposure. Its a way of pretending to be politically correct, while eliminating those who come out.
