What the hell happened here? I've heard of VW buses catching fire, but I've never seen it happen.

Check the placement of any fuel filters also; get 'em away from anywhere where it can get hot, or where fuel can spray down onto a hot exhaust

Use braided stainless steel fuel hoses.

Little tip....If you have a bus or bug with the original carb dont just check the fuel lines. Unbolt the carb and rip the top off and if there is ANY corrosion from water sitting in the float bowl, hoy it in the trash. The base of the float bowl is about as thick as a gnats dick and will corrode through in no time. Also avoid cheapo twin single choke conversions. They corrode through even quicker.
