Far from being a method created by the Church in the Middle Ages to supplement the wealth of the Papacy, indulgences are a beautiful gift from God to the Church, and an example of the mercy of God extending even after death. Join host Michael Voris as he reveals all this and more, and also shows how you can obtain indulgences for you and your loved ones.

  • I have never heard any early Church Father claim that the Apostles receiving the power and authority to loose & bind was equal to the power and authority of FORGIVING sin? That is for Christ alone. The power and authority they received was one given to the priesthood for the sacrament of confession. While on the topic of early Church Fathers, where is the following ever mentioned: temporal 'punishment', and the use of indulgences. If it's not an addition from the Middle Ages, then when?

  • @meestro Jesus HIMSELF directly gives the power to forgive sins; "those whose sins you forgive are forgiven". Jn 20:23. So, if you don't NEED to have a Church Father saying it - God says it! How did you miss this? And on Purgatory the Church Fathers are absolutely chock full of references to these things; Tertullian in The Crown and Monogamy, Augustine in The City of God, etc. etc.

  • So, tell me. In response to "Erik Cartman9000"s comment that people are saved not by works but by faith, you wrote:

"No, by works AND by faith. Not by faith alone. "

Have you ever read Ephesians 2:8-9??

  • >> Have you ever read Ephesians 2:8-9??

Yes - I have read it IN CONTEXT, where it is clear that the "works" in that passage refer to works of the Mosaic law.

Eph 2:10 says man is created "for good works" - why would we be created for something unnecessary?

Also, James 2:24-26 - "See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone."

That is EXPLICIT, DIRECT, PRECISELY THE WORDS of the Catholic teaching.

  • @aleks214 --Ephesians is refering to INITIAL salvation, in which there is nothing we can do to merit; James 2.24 is refering to our cooperation in that salvation that is expected.

  • Catholics wrote the Bible

and Luther changed it, thats why the King James Version is very different from the Catholic Bible

  • I hope you're enjoying the bible we wrote at Carthage. I just only wish Martin Luther would have let the Protestant movement read the whole bible. Or kept so many wonderful books in the Bible.

But then again,If I start a reformation for personal Gain. I would make pointless changes, and harm the wonderful history given to us By Christ as well.

Christ gave us such wonderful traditions and gifts. Such as love, his body and blood, and his church. I just wish you guys were able to share in them.

  • >> If the first pope was married, how about the second?

The issue of married priests is a discipline, not a doctrine. There are many married priests - it is just that in the Latin Rite the majority of priests are not married.

Anyway, elsewhere in the Bible Paul encourages people devoted to God to be unmarried.

  • The Old Testament was authored by Catholics, or Jews?

Every single Catholic Church belief is Biblical? If I give you one example of a Catholic Church that is not biblical, would it sway you in any way? Matthew 8:14 speaks of Peter's mother-in-law. If the first pope was married, how about the second? What is the biblical precedence for unmarried popes and priests, especially when it didn't apply to the original of the type? Did we receive a new Revelation that isn't in the Bible?

  • >> Christ died so we don't go to hell only if we believe in Him.

Very true - and this is why the Catholic Church was founded BY Jesus Christ; so that that teaching (a CATHOLIC teaching) could be spread.

    >> read the bible please all of you catholics(no offense)

No offense, but you don't know what you are talking about. The Catholic Church WROTE the Bible and every single Catholic Church belief is Biblical.

    >> Not by works but by faith.

No, by works AND by faith. Not by faith alone.
