  • What a GREAT number! HOW did this film slip past me? I don't even know the female singer! British Film?

  • This is "Flying High", an americna film from 1931

  • Like it, and early Busby, but their is a bit of Hitlers/Nazi influence, even in Hollywood, at the time, with the male dancers uniforms.

  • ???? Don't see it. It is an AVIATION number and the dancers are in AVIATOR uniforms.

The simplest explanation is usually correct.

  • This was filmed in 1931 an Hitler had not even come to power yet !

  • Multiple small glittery model airplanes! Plus, the names of three notable early aviators spelled out (Byrd, Hawks, Lindy). Yep, pretty crazy.

And no, that's not a Nazi influence. Hitler had not taken over Germany yet when this film was made. The Nazis adapted existing military garb for their uses; they didn't invent it.

  • THAT WAS ADORABLE! I love it - thanks for posting.

  • What an acid trip!! (As I imagine, of course...)... Thanks for the upload!

  • Superb rare video. I really appreciate you posting it!

  • @hebneh

Adapted existing military garb? They gained power including over the armed forces, they'd have hardly redesigned military clothing on having achieved that goal. Anyhow - the uniforms in this vid remind me of some modern Highway Patrol ones:-)

  • Hey, gardenalien...go sit on a tack!

  • What a bunch of idiots with the Hitler/Nazi uniform thoughts. In 1930 the officer/pilots of almost all nations, including the USA, wore almost identical uniforms!

Great video perfectjazz78, thanks for posting.

Yeah, but he came to power two years later.

  • Not seen this before , i have the 2 busby berkeley box sets which are great and includes 9 films + loads of extras , but there are more early busby berkeley films to collect , i am unsure if all are available , i want whoopie (1930) palmy days (1931) wonder bar (1934) only is now available from tcm vaults archives collection and after seeing this clip happy landing or flying high sorry to confuse but this clips film goes under both titles and the good news is this is also available from tcm

  • I thought I knew just about all of Busby Berkeley's work, but this was new to me. Compared to his later numbers, especially the Gold Diggers series, this is a bit sloppy. But, this was early days. Many thanks for this.

  • I feel happy now
