Sangakkara's Address at MCC Spirit of Cricket Lecture at Lord's In an hour-long speech that earned him a standing ovation,

Sangakkara charted the unique history of cricket in his country, and called on Sri Lanka Cricket to root out its corrupt practices, and recognise the huge role that the sport now needs to play in promoting reconciliation at the end of a 30-year civil war. (ESPN-Cricinfo)

I do not own the copyrights to this video. I am only sharing this as I believe it is a brilliant piece of fine oratory graciously sprinkled with interesting anecdotes, which would not only appeal to sports lovers, but would also provide an interesting insight into the culture of subcontinent, and how cricket as a sport has shaped the thoughts and aspirations of the region.

  • @orion2020 No need to thank me, in fact, it is Sanga who should be thanked for such a wonderful speech. It doesn't take a Sri Lankan to realise how special this speech is. Sanga, you are doing a great service to your nation and to the game of cricket. Much Respect from India!!

  • Dear captain I respect you with most respect for your great speech that gives the real picture of our hearts to the world. I hope your expression will mend gaps among ourselves. In our most spirited sports nothing of racial difference or any discrimination is reflected. That was one reason your team was targeted by terrorists in their motherland-Pakistan. I am proud to be a Sri Lankan. Again you highlighted where Sri Lanka is, in the world map to present world generation. You are a blessed son.

  • God bless you sunga as a great human being and a sri lankan. this is the kind of human character that we should all be proud of. It takes a brave man to speak up like this, the sri lankan sports minister has ordered probe into his speech.

you've earned the respect of the world. no matter what happens you will go down as a Great human being.

  • you are honest and fearless.

A light of hope is developing in our hearts with your inspiration.

    Hats off brother.

May the triple gem protect you.

  • What a speech!!!! You are a very brave and an honest man to express your views that way. After cricket you should go into politics with Arjuna to clean up the whole thing.

Sri Lankan politics has become a family affair now. In Italy they say that fish start to rot from the head down. You know what I mean. Sri Lanka needs people like you.

  • Respct Brother Respct... <3 it

  • It would be great if this was spoke in Srilanka and do this speach without the faults of our admin or internal issues. Great guy and great presentation. In common, Suddha never loved us. They always let us down and helped who betreat us. You have to be with them to know them. Hope Sanga never repeat that again.

  • Great sportsman and one of the most decent individual. I hope he will not get into politics. Look at the politicians in any country including England and USA. Keep him away from the politics, he still can contribute a lot to the country.

  • Sanga, you have made all Sri Lankans(Sinhala/Tamil/Burgers/Muslims any other) so proud...spot on with all what you have said! Made me very emotional... we need young ones like you :-)

  • Hats off to the greatest man in the Sri Lankan Cricket History!

We love u sanga, a bother & a friend like you say!
