"The experience and legacy of displacement, forced labor, and expulsion of over 10,000,000 civilians."

In this video, historian and researcher James Mayfield (Director of the Institute for Research of Expelled Germans) speaks at an academic conference on ethnic cleansing called "The Forgotten Genocide" in St. Louis, Missouri in February of 2010. Included is an analysis of the history of the Volga German minority in Imperial Russia, their adjustment to the Soviet Union, and then the total expulsion of nearly a million ethnic German civilians to the wastelands of Kazakhstan for forced labour in the gulags. As many as 30% may have died. Nearly all did not even get a chance to collaborate with the invading Nazis.

  • Germans were not the only victims of ethnic cleansing in the USSR. Soviets also ethnically cleansed the Baltic states, Central Asia, Siberia and the Caucasus.

  • @ss90ss444 Yes, and at the end of the speech, I emphasize the shared suffering of all of these minorities in the USSR.

  • @ss90ss444 you should try to be a better person, the speecher tells about the Chechenians and Ukrainians in the same meeting.

The aim now is talking about the German ethnical group, but they will denounce the crimes against the other minorities too.

The real problem is that the world is too much tolerant about the Russian crimes, even against their own people, like in Gulag

  • It is incredible how people forgive Russia's crimes and absurds.

I was watching a film about Sodom and Gomorrah, according to the Bible, there were not destroyed only by sex acts, but lack of mercy towards the foreigners.

Their cruelty was something that God punished and the world recognizes as unbearable.

But when Russia is terrible against different people and nations, no one talks against that.

  • @thegreendestiny Well, someone could be as crazy as he wants, but it is so evident that Stalin hated all ethnical groups except the Russians and the Georgians.

He was a crazy man that killed many other people and saw an enemy in every person.

And I am a left winged person, but I am sincere and decent enough to say that the communist they spread was not the same of Marx. They were simply cruel and crazy.

  • @ss90ss444 Yes, but there are some things you SHOULD KNOW IF YOU WERE A HONEST PERSON :

1 - They were requested by the Russian government to live there.

2 - They were brainwashed that they would contribute to peace, understanding and a life improvement if they migrated to Kazakhstan.

3 - For me, living in such horrible place, would be worst than death.

By the way, I am Brazilian !!!

And I'd never ever even step in that place !!!

Not even if the devil makes suicide !!!

  • accidently inflincting famine???? i tht the holodomor was engineered, and why dont dese western historians evr shed light on kazakhstan, they r only concerned with ukraine!

  • There were evidence of Volga German connection with Nazi Germany though not very apparent. At the height of his paranoia, Stalin had justification in expelling the Germans.

  • @ss90ss444 True. However, unlike other Autonomous Republics that got restored, the Republic of Volga Germans was never restored. Decades after decades people were hoping it will be restored so that they could come back to the Volga area and live the same way their families lived prior to 1941. Many were strictly against moving to Germany up until mid-1990s when it became pretty evident it will never be restored. How many people living in the Volga area know about this? Pretty much none.

  • Thank you very much for these videos. As a descendant of Volga Germans, I always enjoy seeing the precious few YouTube videos and other resources that are available.
