  • I own a 4W4P Rhoades Car. And, I was just curious about a few maintence things. And, I was wondering if you might have run into any simular situations. I have been having problems with the chains falling off. To where I have gotten to the point where I might have to get a dereailer added to the bike. Otherwise I have enjoyed my bike very much.

Also, in the way of your gearing....have you had any situations with your gearing? If so, what has occured? What was the resolve?

Thanks for your note, it is great to hear from another RC owner!

In the past I had problems with it throwing chains, but by carefully adjusting the dérailleur range screws this can be easily fixed. It seemed to just be a problem with too much range being available and the dérailleur forcing the chain over the last sprocket.

I am note sure what you mean by "situations with your gearing". We haven't managed to find a hill to steep to climb yet, although some are pretty slow.

  • @zawest2008 Yes it sounds entirely like you need to adjust your dérailleur - it is just a matter of adjusting the range screws on the dérailleur until you can get full range top and bottom and no more. If the range is too narrow then your won't get all gears, if it is too wide then the chain will come off, the same as on any bike.

  • I've only had my bike since July, and I have gotten about 500 miles on the bike. But, I do have to get a fare amount of maintence done on the bike. But, I look forward to this upcoming summer. I hope to do some longer rides.

  • I too have had the situation with the throwing of chains. But, the one thing that really has frustrated me is that I have had multiple things happen within the first few months that I have had the bike. I have had the wires frey within the box for the pedal assist, the fenders got bent due to other cyclist just not paying attention to the width of the Rhoades Car. And, just recently I just had one of the Sprockets fall off from the pedal assist unit.

  • @Adam99001 Looks fun and might help take care of this spare tire that has grown around me.

Have a good one and be carefull on that thing!

  • @AirstripBum Oops! Accidently removed my first comment.

  • @AirstripBum We have ridden the quadracycle on trips of 40 km or so and regularly do 30 km trips. It is a very social way to travel and the distance goes by quickly when you have someone to chat with. The Rhoades Car definitely heavier and slower than a bike, even when being pedaled by two people. These days for longer trips we take our recumbent trikes.

  • @Adam99001 That's interesting. You know, it's been so long since I've ridden a bicycle that I don't know if it's required here in Texas. I see people riding bikes occasionally in town without helmets and the deputies don't bother them. Maybe it's just not enforced.

What's your endurance on that thing? How far at normal cruse speed can you make it?
