Hey Florida -- Watch out what you wish for! The unintended consequences will always bite you. If you think that those rigs will be 50 miles away, guess again. You need to decide what your #1 industry is going to be.

  • I think that the residents of Galveston would disagree. No matter what, drilling on the west coast of Florida would involve the construction of transport, refinery and pipelines -- just like the other gulf states have done, and has been done in Prudhoe Bay. So those vaca spots on the coast would be innundated with oil infrastructure. There is a very good reason why Arnold doesn't want any more rigs on his coast.

  • Wow, talk about dishonest. The proposed oil rigs would be far enough out to not be seen. No oil rig in the world is just a few hundred yards offshore from a beach.

  • While true, the actual rigs won't be right on the beach, the oil infrastructure will be on the beach, or just behind the main road. Just look at the gulf states that have rigs. After Katrina, one of those rigs washed up on the Alabama shore. It was a mess. Guaranteed, it will change the view, the environment and have a substantial impact on the surrounding area. Believe me, you do not want oil rigs on the Florida West Coast.

The gulf states have refineries and petroleum processing facilities on the coast. WHY? Because that area is nothing more than a freaking swamp! It is not some pristine beach that people visit.

  • Oh noes! My view isn't as good as it was. Luckily oil prices are sky high.
