Look up ( URL prefix)i.pbase.com/o3/56/710256/1/108377052.xUjM2Rt0.Scan0901180009740.jpg to see Handley Page Herald G-AVEZ from an angle which shows the tailplane tip almost in line with the rearmost window. The little strakes above and below the tailplane, doubled by refraction through the window rim to become the "fins" of the "UFO", are clearly visible. You would see a similar mirage from the same seat in any Herald, and Joan Oldfield happened to film one in 1966.
theres proberbly a few real videos, but unfortunatly there are annother 6,66,666,666,666,666,666,666 fakes like this 1 to bury them, nice job mr fbi. :p
Not another posting of this old chestnut! Super 8 movie shot by Joan Oldfield from the starboard rear seat of a Handley Page Herald in April 1966.
Tabloid press touted it as a UFO, but BBC TV reproduced image from same seat in a Herald a few days later. It's the tip of the tailplane, with the Herald's unique mini-strakes ahead of the elevator balance, optically distorted by the inward curvature at the edge of the window pane. Read all about it in British newspapers from April 66. NOT a UFO!
OMG it's been a few years since I've seen one of those. The item itself is lovingly refered to as a "pig". It is the type of target attached to a "Royston Winch" as use to be towed behind RAF Canberra aircraft of 100 Sqdn over 15 years ago. I have heard of these being "left out" or "unretracted" causing UFO reports .Somewhere on the other end of 3000 feet of steel cable is a Canberra aircraft of 100 sqdn.
