In the first episode of our geek-tastic series we go over a piece of software that many of you will find extremely useful. Often times, as students, we find ourselves wanting to send documents to our teachers, friends and family that they cannot open. Mostly they can't open them because they do not have the complimenting software to do so such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Perhaps they do not have the appropriate image viewer.

PDFCreator free's us from this issue without spending a dime. Adobe would like to charge us to create PDFs with their clunky software that takes up tons of space and runs really slow. PDFCreator is a lightweight application that allows you to print PDFs at ease. It's not perfect of course, but hey, the price is right! So right it's geek-tastic!

  • Can you edit pdf using this?

  • @123456iambelial Unfortunately not. OpenOffice 3 which is out should let you import a PDF and edit it. It is completely free and you can download it in the downloads section of my website.

  • Thanks works great. even tho im still running error with PDF reader, the freeware works great! thanks again.

  • Which PDFReader are you using? You can download FoxIt PDF Viewer through my website if you are using Adobe's.

  • why should ppl save docs as .pdf files? is it because of light weight? I saved this page as an .pdf file and when I hovered my mouse over the file icon it said 0bytes O.o

Anyways I really don't know but I might in the future! :)

  • Mostly because most people have a PDF Viewer and because what you said (smaller size). The problem in the business world is often you cant send a .doc or .docx (because it's extremely likely the person you are sending it too may not have Word). They will, however, most likely have a PDF reader.
