"mentally ill weirdos" Really? No more so than the millions (is it tens of millions yet?) who play WOW, or other MMORPG. Or, think of it this way: some people like to throw a ball through a hoop, some people like to hit a ball with a stick, and some liketo hit people with a stick. All good fun.

Thier not PRETENDING their acting , taking on a character to bring entertainment for themselves and others, there are uncountable different types of Larps, including paintball players (think about it). another type of persona immersion is reenacting, try the SCA, it is wordwide, they battle in real armor, with rattan swords just do a youtube search. (SCA is NOT larping) , yes these guys play at whatever fantasy they like, but thier not deranged thier just having alot of fun and socializing.

I have to say, it makes me feel pretty good knowing that they thought I (the "girl Zelda") was pretty bad-ass. Thanks random videographer! Oh, and I was on the ground because I got hit in the leg. It's actually pretty easy to fight from the grounds with a sword and a shield.

All the nay-sayers, consider this: Ever be walking alone, feel like doing something silly, and just not do if because someone might see you and frown? Ever be so self conscious about your peer group that you can't have the fun you want? Yes, Amtgard is silly, it's geeky, it's off beat. So what? I go out (BTW, a few hundred miles north of these guys), and screw all that. I have fun. Ignore what people think, and act like a kid again. No adult worries for a few hours. Now, how cool is that?

Nice thing about foam is I don't have to explain the bruises to clients or worry hospital bills. But if harder stuff floats your boat, go with it! But being that disrespectful to those of us who care about being in one piece, frankly is rather stupid.

Indeed, asolfvikorson is correct in that we are roleplaying our characters in actual combat instead of from behind a computer. I am the current leader of the group in this video and we are the Crimson Sanctum and the game we are playing is called Amtgard.
