Hackett versus Sturmer, Phil versus Peter, blah blah blah, aren't fans tired of this??? It is what it is.
-
(sigh) Just can't leave the Gabriel/Collins and Hackett/Sturmer pissing contests alone. This is an excellent video. Isn't that plenty enough?
-
Daryl "Santana" Stuermer is much better than STEVE HACKETT, hehe...
Seriously now, GENESIS are much better than beatles n' stupid stones together.

In my opinion Phil in his prime was a better ROCK singer than Peter. He had that ballsy rasp and a bit more energy in his singing. Peter was and is a great artist and performer, but Phil, particularly circa 1980-86, was a better singer.

@kingcrimson234 Yeah he's not exactly anywhere near the level off Hacket's godly awesomeness though is he.

@ontherush77 suck it, daryl rocks!

@Satiaraha In the Cage/Slippermen - Duke tour (1980). Apocalypse in 9/8 from Supper's Ready - Selling England by the Pound tour (1973).

I dont know why everyone is so bent up on comparing the PG era to the PC era. To me they are two seperate bands, and its all opinion anyway, why sit around and argue about it. Just sit back and listen to some good ol' Genesis.
so.. we all agree that PG left the band pale in comparision, I think that the PG albums were always better than the Genesis (post hackett) albums, It was a huge mistake to let hackett go, lisent to Wind & Wuthering and then lisent to Duke.
I preffer any PG album instead of Duke

It's a matter of taste really. PG has an amazing voice imo. Hackett is an amazing song writer and amazing even more with what he could do with the equipment he was exposed to. Wind and Wuthering to me was and still is pure magic.

One thing about Phil ....he's one of the greatest drummers ever. No doubt. Even Chester says so....and Chester is one of the best.

The biggest difference between the PG and PC era's are the attention paid to front men. PG took away too much from the overall music to the point where TLLDOB became a circus sideshow and his departure was the best for the whole group. After that the live music didn't suffer overall because of the focus on where the attention should have always been, and that were the talent of the musicians and the songs themselves.

You know. I always thought the same as you.
I think the group had a better overall feel
for the music aspect. I'm not
putting PG down, he is very talented but when
he left it was really GENESIS as an entity to be
reckoned with as a whole. It's all about GENESIS(all of the musicians)..not just one man.
