my great grandmother is full cherokee dont know if she was on the dawes rolls but i have seen a picture of her and she looks like one also. so what happens to people when they have cherokee heritage but not on the rolls? should they not still honor thier family but just not part of the tribe..

Arizonasalagi this can not be summed up in one or two lines. The C.N. Has people of African DNA and will remain to do so. What I would like to see is a USA that meets the needs of it's population,and a Cherokee Nation that hold culture for people with Cherokee DNA. I feel this issue is not race based and many Cherokee can not be citizens of the CN. Fairness dictates it should be the same across the board. You say many have Cherokee DNA you did not say all do. Its really all about the money because greedy Cherokee Nation Adminstration, not the people.....doesn't want the Freedmen into the tribe because they feel they will have to pay for our medical, educational benefits and so forth. @dontquit1000 I am loyal and love those whom are loyal and love me. My mother was very disenchanted with her nation when I was a child. When I was born she saw how I was treated worse because of my skin as opposed to how they treated Natives who were half white. My mother then told me to cast my lot with my Fathers people( Creole Blacks), my mother also forbade me to speak her nations language, and I never heard her speak it til her death. The above events let me know my mother was right.

If you have knowlege of your Native Ancestry you need to honor it as well as your black roots.
