  • Very Nice Amberola III, The wax Amberol cylinders scare, me, they are so unstable, but recorded so well. I have this one on Blue Amberol, though, I know the record is repeating because you don't want to put those wax Amberols on the mandrel hard at all or they will crack if you look at them wrong. I am working on a run of four minute recording blanks this week.

  • @edisonworks They scare me too, so I don't own many. When they aren't worn though, they are quite loud. Unfortunately many of the songs on the Amberols were never carried over to BA so a lot of good material didn't make the cross over.

Sadly, the record has a bad groove, thus the repeat. I read on the Edison board that you were making some.

One of these days I'll have to try one out!

  • An Amberola III is a beautiful machine, I have the Diamond Disc version the 150, The III of course to me sounds better, Im a cylinder guy, this is one of the loudest Blue Amberols.

  • @edisonworks I agree the III was a nice machine, especially with motor it used. Have you heard BA #1550, Casey Jones by Billy Murray? That is one LOUD cylinder as well!

  • GREAT SOUND!

  • Loud cylinder, yes, but startling presence on the brass, esp. the trombones. Wow!

  • Casy Jones is very loud too, and Uncle Josh (I Laughed at the Wrong Time)

  • So my grandpa told me this story. One day he in 1910 he was walking down the street and Bill Murray was there crooning for the passers by. When they both made eye contact Bill just looked at my grandpa and said "no one will ever fucking believe you."

  • amazing to see and hear the very beginnings of records! Kids should all be aware of how it all started !Now they carry thousands of songs in a 4 X 1/4 Ipod. Thanks for sharing

  • so these were the precursors to vinyl then? very cool that items like these are still around and kicking. thanks for uploading this type of content.
