What Made the Red Man Red? from the Disney film, Peter Pan, 1953. Copyright Disney.

Lyrics:

Why does he ask you, "How?"
Why does he ask you, "How?"
Once the Injun didn't know
All the things that he know now
But the Injun, he sure learn a lot
And it's all from asking, "How?"

Hana Mana Ganda
Hana Mana Ganda
We translate for you
Hana means what mana means
And ganda means that too

When did he first say, "Ugh!"
When did he first say, "Ugh!"
In the Injun book it say
When the first brave married squaw
He gave out with a big ugh
When he saw his Mother-in-Law

What made the red man red?
What made the red man red?
Let's go back a million years
To the very first Injun prince
He kissed a maid and start to blush
And we've all been blushin' since

You've got it from the headman
The real true story of the red man
No matter what's been written or said
Now you know why the red man's red!

  • 1:40 Swag.

  • @widdlepuddyfat No i actually don´t why? BECAUSE we´ve been beaten over the head constantly with how evil we were against the native Americans and so forth it honestly becoming annoying.

Its almost a 100 years since the last war ended. Heck ww2 ended in 1945 and we don´t go bashing the Germans over the head constantly with how evil they where back then and they should hide their head in shame.

No its done its over chase closed its in the bloody past get over it already.

    No, they're free of charge.

  • 0:50 me; I don't think so! Swaa is gonna party!

  • "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" - Santayana.

  • I don't see how this is racist. It's not showing hate towards them, they're living together in union, which is the complete opposite of racism and discrimination. Stereotypical, yes, but not harmful. If they were antagonists, I'd understand, but I think it'd be even more racist if Native Americans were never pictured in animation at all.

It's a cute song and they're seen in a positive light which is enough for the children this movie was intended.

  • 0:33 these people are selling drugs to minors?

Okay... Do you see the year this was made? It wasn't considered "racist" in 1953. The civil rights movement hadn't even started. And no, the civil rights movement was not just for African-Americans. It benefited every race. I do not necessarily condone this song, but please just drop it. We can't change the movie, and if you don't like this song, then just don't listen to it. It is just as simple as that.

  • This shit wouldn't fly in Canada today.
