Everyone knows that a red & white checkerboard is Croatian National Symbol. But, do you know how this symbol came to be what it is? After researching this subject I was amazed how educational and especially entertaining the history of Croatia as a whole is. Croatian checkerboard went throughout twists & turns for centuries. Even legend how it came to be. Take a look and see for yourself. Just a note: my intentions are just for the facts and not a bit political.

  • The cross was knocked crooked in the 17th century when the crown was damaged, possibly by the top of the iron chest housing the insignia being hastily closed without the crown having been placed in it properly. The cross has since been left in this slanted position, and is always depicted as such.

Since 2000, the Holy Crown has been on display in the central Domed Hall of the Hungarian Parliament Building.

  • Notice @ 2:31 the checkers are in wrong order... surely they must of known when they designed it.

  • Thanks for your comment. Could you please specify where are the checkers in wrong order?

  • Hi Guys and ladies, I really appreciate this hot discussion weather we Croatian are this or that. Just please no offending language. Thanks a lot!

  • @TheNemssus 2. From what I have read there are significant differences between Croat and Serb genetics while the Bosnians are mixed but are generally closer to the Croats than the Serbs genetically.

  • @TheNemssus In 2007 Rębała and colleagues studied several Slavic populations "Two genetically distant groups of Slavic populations were revealed: One encompassing all Western-Slavic, Eastern-Slavic, and few Southern-Slavic populations (north-western Croats and Slovenes), and one encompassing all remaining Southern Slavs.

Slavic populations such as Bulgarians, Serbs and Macedonians are clearly separated from the tight DNA cluster of the rest of the Slavic populations".

  • @AmeriKa1050 It's truth, Serbs do have around 30% Slavic genetic, but Croats have less, 20 something.... Do your research. If anything genetic tests show how little we are of what we think.

  • @CPHATPOJKA Croats and Slovenes are 60% Slavic while Serbs are 30% Slavic according to genetic DNA tests. Croatia's name can be found written in 1,000 year old stone tablets i.e: Baska tablet and is mentioned in the Vatikan archives as well as in Byzantine histories. The Serbs do not have this evidence to back up their claims. You are forgetting the Vlach tribepeoples of the Balkans are divided among the Croats and Serbs but are actually neither genetically.

  • Your national anthem is composed by the Serb Josip Runjanin.Vast majority of todays Croats are descendants of catolized Serbs...

  • ViVA Croatia!!!

  • Pa zar grb NDH takoder nije jedan od povijesnih Hrvatskih grbova, kada je vec prikazan onaj komunisticki.

  • I understand why you might not like to originate same place like Rusians but proof is in the pudding as they proved with genetic study of Croatians DNA and found them of Slavic origin. So be proud who You are ,celebrate it and don't be racist towards Rusians, they are family, like it or not.

  • @vaselgjelaj you shouldnt disrespect your own heritage like that, you should be proud of being slavic. Illyrians are a ancient people who lived in that part of croatia before the slavics came, they do make a small part of croatian DNA but our majority bloodline, our history, our culture, and our language is of slavic origin. Some want to deny this, but the facts are facts theres no hiding it.

DNA tests have been done and it shows that we are mostly slavic.
