I'd like to suggest a book, Apocalypse: Earthquakes, Archaeology, and the Wrath of God, by Amos Nur. It's about how a series of earthquakes and tsunamis had a profound impact on the late Bronze Age.
You might also want to look up a map of the North Anatolian fault, with regard to the Van quake. - And you might want to look at recent reports of activity at the Yellowstone volcano. Like the man said, we knew it was coming.
