  • Question: Is it necessary to be a complete guitarist to know dorian aeolian mixolydian ionian scales? are there hard? and also wich are the most used by hard rock, maybe grunge guitarrists? greetings from chile

  • @Verdagol11 You should get around to learning the modes when you need them, but it's not a big deal. Grunge and hard rock will use aeolian, dorian, phrygian, and locrian, and occasionally myxolydian.

  • Funky style man :D i like it. I got a question though, how can you play primarily in B dorian? Isnt That just Playing in B modes regardless? sorry it confuses me x]

Also, how did you get hold of that JEM!?!?! They're incredibly hard to find, you sir are a lucky man!

  • @bristhief1 i'm not exactly sure what you're asking about B modes. the truth is i've fudged on this improv since the backing track uses a major 3rd instead of a minor. but the mode i'm using to solo is primarily dorian (1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7). i got my Jem10 years ago. i found it online--a music store several states away had it. Cost mega bucks--more than i really think it's worth. not really better than any other Jem IMO.

  • I really like your style! It is very similar to how I play!!! Are you into like everystyle of music? i am I like to try everygenre playing live with diff. bands.

    on the sound:

I think the compression from the youtube site always gives you more treble. I haven't figured out a fix for that.

  • thanks. i enjoy playing just about any style except country or hip hop.

on the tone: i don't doubt that it sucks. i can't ever find a tone i'm completely happy with. but i have limited gear and it's not important enough to me to spend much to improve it.

  • @reborn1995 thank you so much... i already know the blues and pentatonic scales.. now im going for those others

  • Great improv man! :)

  • Great solo and demonstration of what you can do with this mode. From about 0.25 to about .30 it sounded a lot like Steve Hillage - do you know if he uses this mode to get his sound? I've always wondered what scales are behind his trademark licks. Thanks in advance.

  • such a nice guitar

  • Great job man....

  • Watching all these amazing guitarist doing their thing really makes you open your eyes. I thought I was amazing because I can sweep a really good arpeggio and shred the pentatonic box. well, I was wrong, I fucking suck!

Back to the drawing board. I'm starting all over beggining with the Lydian and Mixolydian modes, wish me luck

  • @reborn1995
