About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  • Thank you Leslie Dodson. I agree with you that alot of negative images and videos have been sent across and so many people have believed that that is the image of Africa. I would also comment and especially about my country Uganda where 80% of the population are in rural areas. There is unbelievable poverty; pupils study under trees, no breakfast or lunch at school.Parents can not afford even a book for their children and much more....How do we address such cases to the world to win support?

  • @stokesy10101 what is wrong with you man?

  • Wow Jodie Foster sure does give a good speech

  • Woman asks too many questions and doesn't answer enough of them.

  • @MassZombicide What the fuck.

  • Finally. I've been waiting for this. Africa is a continent plagued with a variety of problems to say the least and it's beyond amazing that individuals world wide dedicate their lives to try solve these problems by raising awareness among other things...however the stereotypes are too much.

  • 1080p?? Man this is historical!!

  • As a goth, I wish I were as jet black as those in that picture out of south Sudan. Those people have no idea how lucky they are.

  • @stokesy10101 ...and you overuse the phrase "the joke" ?

  • @Mytholgylove The joke was that she over used the phrase 'in part' throughout the entire presentation.

  • @SemKidaneg The joke was that she over used the phrase 'in part' throughout the entire presentation.

  • @woodsprout The title said "revelations" from the field, so I got in expecting something new, revolutionary or really interesting. It's an ok talk, but unlike other ted talks,I did not get any new information, only some basic inferences.Yes,reporting is not the same as science. Yes,Africa is a continent, not a country, and some countries are better off, some are worse. Yes, the media will always be biased and report certain extremes (which applies in developed countries too). Still, nothing new.

  • @punkistz Unconvincing ? How ?

  • @klimaxg Actually she is out there doing, and describing it to you, and you are armchair complaining about her descriptive words. Your complaining is the "horrible bullshit" (as you put it).

    How about TRYING to comprehend.?

  • unconvincing.

  • Those villages should have some level of privacy, or at least paid to have themselves be photgraphed. Villages will now be competing against each other, who can look the most disadvantaged. Those villages will now get the most exposure and aid. The africans rely on this system of maintaining a poor image. They rely on the donations and food support from other nations. Perhaps they can recover, but choose not to. Leslie Dodson's talk suggests this idea.

  • @klimaxg

Why don't you use your head, give it a new experience.

  • "I don't think so, girlfriend." lol

  • Her words do nothing useful. "Fuzzy boundaries"? "Ethics of seeing"? What horrible bullshit.

  • @stokesy10101

I disagree, did you consider that you just might not be comprehending her, in my opinion, very relevant message?

  • great find

  • this is excellent

  • I hate this woman, in part because she's boring.
