James L. Macfarlane is a community volunteer, University of Utah advocate and businessman. A graduate of the University of Utah, he started his career with Rocky Mountain Bank Note Company, where he rose through the ranks to become President and COO. He co-founded both Financial Registers and IC Group (a graphic arts company).
Mr. Macfarlane has served as Chairman of Blue Cross of Utah and on the boards of Understanding Chemical Addiction Disease, ARUP Blood Testing and Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Care. As a tireless supporter of the University of Utah, he served on several boards including eight years on the Board of Trustees, the David Eccles School of Business and the Pioneer Theater Company. He is known in church, civic, and business circles for his diplomacy and courageous problem solving, and as a kind friend who leaves situations better than he found them.
