I start off at the bottom of the Jamboree Snow Resort. You'll notice that you have access to almost all the missions from this area, rather than having to hunt for them.

I meet up with some "friends" and we go for a... ride.

to use the snowboard, do you have to have the wii balance board?

No, you do not need the Wii Balance Board to play this game.

now, in this game do you still have to hunt down some of the mssions and if so, is it the same kind of missions offered at the bottom of the resort?

Most of the missions are at the bottom. There are a couple of missions you can find, such as trick missions, in other places.

Also, to make up for having most missions at the bottom, you can instead find people/things hidden all over the resort, which give you "thumbs up" which are like, achievements I suppose :).
