Perhaps the fact that people perceived the piano as something more, something positive, something hopeful makes its ending tragic. It certainly is to me.

Also, it's obvious the couple at the end really wanted the piano. Whether it's withering or "falling" apart... it would have meant something to them. It's also obvious they didn't care that the top lid and top front panel were missing. They were willing to do whatever it took to have the piano, and it's destruction was unnecessary.

pianos aint cheap. to think someone would destroy it rather than find a way to donate to someone makes me sick. perhaps they thought the strings were copper and the keys were real ivory? Detroit would have devoured that piano within 30 min of being set on the street, in broad daylight.

That's so sad! Such a beautiful film told simply in photographs! I loved it. The couple...oh, that's a sad thing to find the piano you were going to save destroyed by those who were unappreciative of its beauty. :/
