Increaseingly rare sight in Scotland .Only 1300 dairy herds left - A 1000 less herds than 1999.UK. Milk production is at it;s lowest level since 1970 Another 40 Scottish herds were dispersed last year because of very low milk price.
It;s been a long while since these cows were grazing grass .Had to bring them inside last August due to extreme wet weather. This spring has been exceptionally dry and very cold - It was snowing in some parts of Scotland this week !
The cow with horns is a New Zealand Friesian x Holstein (Sired by LIC bull Paisly) She causes havoc in the parlour
by stabbing other cows with those horns

  • nice to see them out, i cant believe how cold it actually is! silage is guna be a week or two behind i think this year with the cold weather weve had. id imagine its abit dangerous with that cow having them horns like that, it could easily do a bit of damage, is it possibly too late to get them cut off considering the size of them? anyway, i guess its starting to warm up now, so there will be some more activity im guessing nice to see you uploading again, kepp these great vids coming?

  • @Portnob Still possible to get those horns removed but would have to be done by a vet. Usually i remove horn buds when they are calves but i missed this one

  • Wow what a breathtakingly beautiful sight.

I hope this year brings you great weather and tons of milk!

  • @Socksee Thanks :)

  • they look so much better when they are not dehorned, i was beginning to think this was a hornless breed till i see this video and a few others

  • @holsteincowboy

That is awful only 0.24 Euro per litre (20 pence)

    That is only $0.33 33cents

How do you make it on only that?

  • @holsteincowboy by a vet, wots crak.

  • what time do you start in the morning?

  • Breathtaking...

  • Wow. Very tranquil.

  • you could always cut the horns off we have had to do that on some of ours... take a bicycle tube and tie it tight at the base and cut them off with a saws all leave tube on 24 hours

  • Beautiful video; very calming. Much needed farm fix here in the suburbs of Washington, DC.

  • put castrating rings on the horns and they will come off make sure they are at the base
