just tried it using floats. it certainly works. this changes everything!!! i'm a little confused about the --- but i'll revise that later.

@learnMax cool. this has got me thinking. for ages i've been trying to find a away to make a really basic live sampler that you could put on an audio track, record and sample straight into it then play back the sample at pitch from a keyboard, sk1 style i guess. maybe this might offer a solution...

@trinidee247 Thanks for the compliment! I'm not sure I entirely understood your question, but there are methods for getting at some of Live's API functionality using Python, but I haven't done that personally. One of my students is working on it though. Max for Live is really the best way to get all the way under the covers.
this is really interesting. is this kind of midi messaging exclusive to midi tracks? or could i say send midi to a device on an audio track in the same way? perhaps to control the playback pitch of a sampling audio effect?

@MrNedRush you can send messages this way between any max patch, the delay I was controlling with aftertouch could have been on another track, or even the returns or master, it doesn't matter. IT also does not have to be midi, it can be any max message, msp signals on the other hand can't currently be sent through this "wormhole" sort of thing.
