This sounds a lot like Saigal. It was Mukesh imitating him. C H Atma tried to imitate Saigal. I still have the Long Play Record(33 1/3 RPM) of this song.

This was Mukeshji's first film song and was also the last he sung on stage on US tour.A great singer who held his own and grew to develop his own style. While it looks very simple when he sings when u try it is very hard. That is his greatness. He still lives through his songs.Aptly Rjakapoor said on Mukesh's demise he had lost his voice.

Mukesh's break came through Ashok Gosh in Nirdosh, then Anil Biswas gave him this immortal song in Great K.L.Sehgal's style. It was AB who took Mukesh ji under his wingsm advising him why he ought to stop singing like KLS clone, showed him how to come out of KLS mould & sing in his own style.Mukesh ji understood & rest is history.

Mukeshji is in Saigals shoes in this greatest song by him and he became an accomplished singer with this song and got recognition. The song had great depth , sorrow and pain and even to day this is still fresh and feel like crying. one must listen to this song in Darkness of night in silence.A very great performance by the immortal singer Mukeshji. With sucjh songs he is still amongst us and still alive.

At first I thought Saigal sang this. Wonderful song. Manmohan Sing and Sonia Gandhi appointed Kalmadi to loot for them as well. This is why they were not taking action against Kalmadi even after accusations against him

thanks for posting this song

i am only 21 and I still LOVE this .....kya depth hai bandey ki awaaz mein.
Mukesh was indeed a great singer. Too bad he died rather young at the age of about 53. Good music and singers like Mukesh and others, find their admirers regardless of their ages. I am a bit older than you (by about 18 years), and I like even older songs than this and older singers like K.L. Saigal, Khursheed Bano, Shamshad Begum, Kanan Devi, Zohra Bai ete. Mostly because I watched my father listening to these singers. I am glad you appriciate the talent and art that Mukesh represented.
