I posted a video of me playing bouzouki and Boubouka dancing and YES that is Boubouka in this video clip. She was about 18 years old here. She is also featured in about 4 Greek movies that she told me about, 2 of which are here. One is called I AGNOSTOS (Madam X) and she has a small dance part in that one. In another movie she is one of the stars. She's a very very nice lady. So if anyone has questions let me know and I will give her a call.

I know Boubouka personally and I asked her. She never did burlesque. She is a class act and only worked in Greek nighclubs as a dancer and in several motion pictures.. She is not on any cover of Mohammed El Bakkar's records. She is wondering where this information wsa obtained. She gave up dancing around 1975 when she married and had her daughter. She lives out here by us in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Would you like for me to ask her anything for you??

I don't think this is the music she was dancing to. It just doesn't go.

even with the old film quality you can see the muscles in her legs and abdomen working hard. this is the first video in a long time that i have watched all the way through. today belly dancers are trying to out do each other or trying to sell a workout video. this was so refreshing. i even forgot about the lack of top after about 15 seconds. doesn't hurt that she is beautiful!! i say let the retro dancing begin.

Where 's the pole?this is NOT belly dancing
Actually this very much is belly dancing. Her name is Boubouka and she was a famous Greek belly/burlesque dancer from the 50's through to the 70's. She worked with some of the best musicians both Greek and Arabic. In fact she was featured on the cover of more than one Mohammed El Bakkar album. The cabaret style of belly dancing you're probably comparing it to is more an American adaption. It's what belly dancing has evolved into over time and with the exposure to foreigners........

Don't forget that also every decade era has its own style/trend in any dance. This video was in the 70's i think and her moves reflect that. Think of it like this. The way your parents danced at a disco is not the same style as what you dance in a club! Just being informative not mean. Boubouka is a respected dancer and is a lovely person.
