  • of course if one is a victim of rape in saudi arabia, she gets lashes....great family values

oh, and what reward does one get by strapping explosives onto a child and watching them blow up?

    wonderful values

  • Don't forget about all those Christians who murder and steal and rape in this country. And what about all those priests who molest children? Oh and the fundamentalist Christians who bomb abortion clinics... We can play this game all day! The problem is NOT religion, the problem is people who don't follow the teachings of that religion. Don't blame Islam for the actions of sick, extremist Muslims. Likewise, we shouldn't blame Christianity for the actions of Timothy McVeigh and David Korresh!

No apologies necessary. I am, of course, curious about Islam, even though I am an atheist. It's always interesting to hear what people believe and why.

Personally, I don't think anyone needs religion to tell them how to be good. In fact, I think we are better off piecing together how to make a good society through argument, law, democracy, philosophy, and education, rather than leaning only on ancient religion. Loving one's mother is an example of this: you just do it, religion or no.

  • my apologies if i've been too personal & i respect ur views. it's good dat u luv ur mum. in fact, according to islam (just fyi), mums r respected 3x more than dads. i respect my mum b'cos she had gone through the hardship carrying me in her tummy for 9 months, feeding me, clothing me & even educating me at home while my dad is away at work - and i think this is why mums r respected more. in fact, mary is the only woman's name mentioned in the quran - respected as mother of jesus & piety to god.

  • let's just say it's a guidance on how to treat your family & orphans. u've made a good point - of course ppl love their moms, but we should also learn to love our dad. it's just sad that i see in secular nations that many children swear at their parents as if they're not been raised well & abandoning their parents at old age. these children don't even think abt the harship d parents provide for them when they were small - clothing, feeding, sheltering, providing for & educating them.

  • I love my mom <3

  • Actually, it is part of a religion like Islam, because it teaches us moral values to treat our mother, father and other family members with respect. Atheism has no rules on that.

  • There must be a creator that designs and centrally operates the universe - otherwise it'll be chaos - we'll bump into the sun and burn ourselves etc.

  • So then we humans are created without a creator? It does not make sense to me that the creation of the universe has no creator, since that mobile phones and other inventions have their inventors. Even robots are created by humans and humans help to assemble their parts. We humans don't create the sky, the sun, water or plants - we create something that has been provided for us.
