Graphic designers combine artistic ability with technical knowledge to create designs used in print and electronic media. First-year courses introduce students to graphics software, typography and design fundamentals that are essential for success in the graphics media industry. Second-year students apply these skills in a unique instructional setting that blends marketing and advertising concepts with art production. Design ability is strengthened through instruction in printing, pre-press, and finishing operations. A fourth semester course prepares students for employment through career and portfolio development.

The graphic designer's employment opportunities are varied and competitive. Designers find employment as graphic designers and graphic artists with advertising agencies, printing companies, corporate art departments and publishers; as online web site developers; in public relations firms; and as free-lance designers. Earning potential increases with extended and varied work experience. Lean more at www.westerntc.edu

  • The problem with that is that there is way too many programs in America that teach graphic designs. Saddest part is that there ain't as many design jobs in comparison to the design programs. Graduate students don't only compete with the people that have degrees, but they also compete with the people who are self thought designers. There should be guidelines in this country on how many students per year can enter a design programs.

  • @RoflCopterofJustice This might have been said months ago, but a general rule of thumb i go by is: sarcasm on the internet is like winking on the phone. Sarcasm is usually picked up by vocal change, hand or facial gestures.

  • @docrock66 My God, some people don't understand sarcasm when they read it. I guess I hit a sore spot though... but at least you seem... literate. We'll just have to work on your understanding of politics and you'll be golden.

  • @RoflCopterofJustice My God, some of us aren't fortunate enough to be born and raised in an English speaking country. Of course the government will allow people like you with a tight ass to get ahead. Have a nice day loser.

  • @docrock66 My God, they obviously should do away with some of the graphic design classes and offer English and grammar instead. Of course, the government will allow you to take the English classes because you seem... intelligent...
