Sorry about the widescreen mode - I can't alter it - anyway here is Fred and Ginger dancing what I think is their masterpiece - i would also have just tipped Irving Berlin's great song to win the academy award over Kern's The Way You Look Tonight

Glad you like the clip - life in the thirties was hard due to the great depression, but was the golden age of songwriting and these movies helprd people escape the harsh rwealities of life if only for a short time.

Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed Lets Face The Music - Fred Astaire introduced more standards than anyone and was a favourite singer of many composers even though he had only a small, soft voice

The greatest scene in the history of cinema. A self-contained masterpiece that takes us from the depths of despair to a reaffirmation of hope by love through song and dance. The marriage of film-making, storytelling, music and performance here is flawless.
And how many cuts are there during Fred and Ginger's dance? ZERO. This was when musicals were made to amaze audiences with the performers skill, not try to trick them into thinking someone who can't dance can, which is not amazing at all.

Since I read Fred's autobiography I smile when I watch this scene...he was knocked out by her dress and didn't remeber anything about the dance, they did it a few more times but the original was the best...you can't see that he's woozy at all but you can see when it hits him :-)
But I guess that just shows how brilliant he must have been - to dance like that even though he shouldn't really be standing up at all!

Thank God it is immortalized on film, for we will never see it duplicated.

For a moment I find myself in a magic place...
Is that the love, is that the romance or that's only Fred & Ginger's Dance?
Fred & Ginger are great as dancers, actors and most important: great as a couple. Wonderful performance, one of my favorites!

Brilliant, beautiful, and lovely. Thanks too for the educated comments. I had forgotten about that dress. In that same book, Astaire talked about the red feathers on the dress from "Cheek to Cheek." They were flying off the dress and landing all over the stage. I know they did straight takes, so they had to start over each time the stage needed to have the feathers removed! Someone said of them, "He provided the class; she provided the sex." Together, they were sublime!
