  • Am I the only one who thinks an illusion that involves a female assistant is more entertaining with an everyday woman dressed in a regular dress, that a scantily-clad dancer that's always gyrating and shaking her booty to the rhythm of loud rock music, and where she and the magician are bantering and explaining instead of dancing around speechless?

  • @JekyllBoote Re "overfed skull"... Here's a quote from The Goon Show:

MORIARTY: That flag they're flying! It's the skull and crossbones!

NEDDIE: "Wrong! It's a photograph of David Nixon with his arms folded!

(From "Tales of Old Dartmoor", 1956)

  • David Nixon was a brilliant magician. According to some wags, his piece-de-resistance was said to be making the lady (his wife) vanish during his frequent assignations (as strong rumour had it) with the undeniably lovely Anita Harris.

He was immensely genial, and far less "edgy" than his (also brilliant) successor, Paul Daniels, even if my father once opined that he looked like "an overfed skull".

  • Ali Bongo, not Bonco, unless its someone different to who im thinking of

  • How lovely to see some vintage tslent! David Nixon was the last real Magician that ever interested me and that I watched! Thanks!

  • Anita Harris is a true lady. I worked for a charity some years ago and she helped us out. She was so nice to me when I was very green about the world of celebrity.

  • note the hands-on aspect at the end -"come and say goodnight to the audience". With later generations of TV entertainers, the TV audience might not want them within touching distance

  • FANTASTIC!
