Yeah, I'm hoping the calories will help people get a handle on how much they're eating and drinking. I can be hard to maintain, or especially lose, weight if you enjoy good beer.

I don't think they will put calories on the bottles unless they're forced. Hopefully people who want the calorie info can use it to help in balancing their overall calorie consumption. It's just another point of info to help out. I plan on doing some more stuff to help people manage their diets. I have a lot of experience with it so I might as well share.

There are a bunch of "formulas", some more accurate than others. I went with what I think is the most accurate.
I think you're right that most craft beer drinkers don't think too much about calories but some of that is due to lack of information. Many people probably don't think that 12oz of DFH 90 minute has more calories than 3-4 Budweiser's. I'll put the info out there, people can use it or not.
I think Rogue does it to be unique. You can convert "Plato" to ABV by dividing by 2.5.

Nice, another fireside chat with Mark! I really enjoy the calorie count. That's a cool thing. I've certainly put on some pounds since I started with the craft stuff. Great vid.
I don't really think or care about how many calories are in my beer. A time and a place for everything - drink what you most enjoy, drink however much of it that you'd like to - and another time, get some good exorcize, whether you're playing some basketball or walking a few miles, burn some calories and don't be a pussy (when drinking or exorcizing)

@Sovnarkom If you can keep your weight in line without worrying about the calories in your beer and you are eating relatively healthy and getting some exercise, then I agree with you. I don't pay a lot of attention to the calories in my beer but I d try to keep it in moderation. Many people though have no idea about how calorie laden beer is and have trouble keeping a healthy weight.

I found a simpler formula while back that comes within 20 calories of the calories listed for specific beers on brewery and other websites.
ABV x Volume (in ounces) = X/60 x 150 = calories in that beer

I found that same formula in my research. It's pretty accurate and is a good "quick and dirty" estimate, which is better than nothing. The problem is that it can't account for beers that have a lot of unfermented sugars. I think the spreadsheet I put together will be more accurate, especially for the heavier and imperial style beers.
