This animated short tells the story of a couple playing a game of Capoeira Angola in the park. It is an ancient martial art of African origin, one of the many cultural weapons used to break the chains of enslavement in Brazil.

The technique of rotoscoping (tracing video frame by frame) is used to give the movements an extra dimension, it took about 1200 sketches to make the animation. Make sure you like drawing before you start working on a project like this.

Animation: Sir
Dancers: Totti Angola and Ilma van de Beek
Music: Grupo de Capoeira Angola Pelourinho, Mestre Moraes

  • I have never seen a film of any kind that captures the spirit of The Game better. I've been playing for 19 years.

  • Lindo. Parabéns!

  • @ajx8141 ..... hehehe this is me as a Dad, and that is My girlfriend as a mom.. just like that at trainings...

  • massa!

  • Wow that is gonna be me as a Dad

  • It is not an easy question to answer the more I learn the more confusing it gets, Capoeira Angola has more rituals and games with the game if that makes sense it tends to be played at a slower pace, lower to the ground and the players are closer together. Regional tends to be played faster and more upright, there is more emphasis on fighting and gymnastic movements. Mestre Bimba introduced new movements and a ranking system. Capoeira Contemporanea blends both traditions.

  • @YatChum ohk cheers :) are there any defining/large kind of differences between regional and angola

  • @jackslasho Most Capoeira schools are now are Capoeira Contemporanea.

  • @jackslasho Mestre Bimba (considered by many to be the father of modern Capoeira) created his own style which became known as Capoeira Regional after this the original version of capoeira became known as Capoeira Angola. Later the two styles were blended to create a third style Capoeira Contemporanea.
