True View is pleased to present these highlights from the 4th annual running of The Lakeland Derby. In tribute to the City of Lakeland's symbol, the Derby features ten stunning, hand-crafted, swan paddleboats in a race for the roses on downtown's Lake Mirror. Over the past four years, this major fundraising event has grown in spectacular fashion, serving both to showcase the services LVIM provides our community. Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine began as the dream of various community and organizational leaders in 1999 to develop a volunteer-run medical clinic to provide free, quality medical care to the working uninsured of Polk County. In the beginning, the Watson Clinic Foundation, physicians, and community leaders responded with a wealth of support. Thanks to the generous donation of the Polk County School Board, and the City of Lakeland, LVIM took up residence in the historic building that was formerly the John Cox Grammar School. LVIM opened in 2001 and is now an independent, non-profit organization with a Board of Directors.
