  • I remember seeing this movie when I was about 9 or 10. I didn't understand all the adult dialogue but the photography was terrific. I saw the movie about 5 years ago and was amazed at the innocence of the era. No TSA agents, x-ray machines, a little boy playing with a toy gun in the tickng area. Also of note was that in order to fly from Honolulu to San Francisco, or other airports on the "mainland" you had to have a passport as Hawaii was not a state at the time.

  • @neil1943a On my dad's death bed, I told him, "We're gonna end the cold war, and maybe there'll be no more wars."

"You're kidding yourself. Even if the cold war ends, they'll come up with something else."

I hoped he was wrong, but had no reply. Turns out old US pilot license number 35 elder wisdom had trumped youthful innocence again.

  • i was about 10 in a small ohio town when i saw it on the big screen, and then john wayne was like a god to children like me. I remember at that age i was perplexed, given America having men, heros, like he, and all the other protagonists in movies and on TV, and good always triumphing over bad, why the country was always so afraid of these "Communist" bad guys and nations the news was always talking about.
