Whats wrong with firefoxs default??same thing but way more compact,and when your on a page just click on the drop down arrow to the left of the search area & you can usually add the search engine straight from there.

I prefer just setting the address bar to automatically do Google searches since that's the only one I use often.

a better way is instanfox a addon taht you just put g in the adress bar space and type what you want and start searching instanly and the same with Y for youtube i for google images and you can put custom ones its the best
