From his Instructional video Dave Weckl & Walfredo Reyes - Drums & Percussion. I cut out the more interesting parts here. no you can se exactly his movements, and I like that. Of course some of the beats you can figure out in Normal speed, but here you really can se his motions. More of this will come, especially some Reggae-style. I would recommend you to buy this dvd too.

  • Sabian and Paiste are both quality cymbals. I use a combination of Paiste and Zildjian cymbals....I don't purchase cymbals according to brand...I just buy what sounds the best for that particular piece I'm looking for.

  • I'm not against sabians. I think they sound wonderful. But, i also love zildjian.

Which is why i have two sets. One devoted to sabian, and one devoted to zildjian =)

  • When the fuck did this video become about some bum ass cymbals ?

  • @VonArkesh but if you were a famous drummer and you wanted to be sponsored you would need to stick with one company, which is bullshit. i completely agree with you

  • Dave, is very obviously to me, the best of the jazz-latin players I have seen in my life! Never have I seen such amazing Samba music when there is something that is quite fast, and I love to see him just there in the moment, making his love for the instrument known. I do play, and have been told too I play very well, but Dave is the man insofar as I am concerned is the best. I have learned from many other drummers, but I have learned most from Dave Weckl - how much I don't know yet!

  • yes speed does... but Dave is awesome!!!

  • @JACSjazz Hey thanks for that, nice to know as I'm slowly getting my head around various Latin rhythms....cumbia, cha-cha, bossa nova, rhumba, sambas, etc have been great to learn. But salsas and mambo's have always been a bit of a mystery to me as to how the percussionist follows it, so that as a drummer I can play it with a more authentic feel, instead of being the gringo I am LOL. (well, I'm not that gringo, I've got a mixed background, but no Latino in there I'm afraid!). Gracias amigo!

  • He is playing so fast that appears to be slow kkkkkkk :P

It is not slow,it is so fast to ahuahuahua

  • @mrpercussive Im no percussion player, but I am from Puerto Rico, so latin is tied to my blood jjajaja, and its not that its wrong or bad playing it on 2 and 4, its just that to us it doesnt feel like its "sabroso" (tasteful) and can get a bit annoying, because we improvise not thinking on 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, we mainly use the clave which feels better on 1 and 3. Anyway in the end you play like you feel it. Just wanted you to have a perspective from a latin player :)

  • @lmospina42

totally get ya... i'm just saying it's funny if he's that he's demonstrating latin with a hihat on 2 and 4. Of course you can do anything you want. But to understand how it all comes together before the influence of jazz or rock grooves... listen to guys like Dafnis Prieto, or El Negro, etc... And then watch guys like Antonio Sanchez and Weckl and how they fuse it with other stuff...
