@kalibhakta I know that on thabla you can use the four beat measurement (known as Khervaa). Dha tin nage dhin. Then when he goes fast (like 2.48 to 3.00) it's Dhage tin na ge Dhina (four beat, not eight).
The benefit of playing Kherva is that it can go in any taal, though the main ones are 4 and 8 beats. Not sure if this helps but it's from a thabla's angle.

Sharukh khan's grandfather was from afghanistan. incredible haha
