The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom is spearheading a national campaign that addresses human trafficking and international women's rights. These issues appear as themes in the film "The Whistleblower." The film exposes the true story of a human trafficking ring in postwar Bosnia in which employees of DYNCORP, a US military contractor, were directly involved. The current Secretary-General of WILPF, Madeleine Rees (depicted in the film by Vanessa Redgrave), played a major role in revealing this scandal as part of her previous position with the UN High Commission on Refugees. The film reveals that under the rule of diplomatic immunity, the traffickers were only lightly reprimanded. Some were sent out of Bosnia but continued their employment with the company.
US WILPF hopes that WILPF branches, civil society organizations, as well as individuals (such as yourself!) will use the film both to help raise awareness for human trafficking and as a chance to participate with key policy makers in the development for a National Action Plan (NAP) for United Nation's Security Council Resolution 1325 (SCR 1325) -- the first of it's kind to address the necessity of female perspectives in high-level decision making pertaining to matters of peace and security.
