  • OK. I must have dated this one incorrectly. Since the logo was changed in 1991 and napalm suggests this is circa 1992, I'll admit I was wrong.

Thanks to urinemonster (what a name!) and napalm5.

  • The Australian Retailer's Association made a submission to the Reserve Bank of Australia in 2002 in response to the EFTPOS Industry Working Group which states that EFTPOS was introduced in Australia in 1984. Refer to Section 7 "The History of Debt" in ara_130902.pdf. Besides, other commercials on the same tape (during the same recorded tv show) allowed me to date this one quite accurately. As I recall, Coles was one of the first to implement it and it took a while to catch on.

  • @MrOzanachronism Well, it can be time saving in the sense that you might not have money on you right at that moment and don't really have the time to spare a visit to the bank or to an ATM. You can just go to the store get what you need, pay for it on your card (and get some cash out if you need it) and get the hell outta there.

  • Pressed for time? As if these pieces of shit save time. It takes 10x longer for a card trans to approve compared with a cash trans.

  • @mubd1234 You're exactly right. Well spotted.

  • @boogiefever1985 You're right, they were never five numbers. This lady isn't entering a fake PIN either (well, it probably is, but not for the reason you say it is). Think about what you press on the keypad BEFORE you enter your PIN number.

  • @elliebellybabe38 They were never 5 numbers. It is a fake PIN for the purposes of the advertisement.

  • @mubd1234 It's clearly a fake PIN (not pin number) because she presses five numbers not four.

  • That voice sounds like the voice that does the TV guidlines commercial.

  • Lol i vaguely remember this ad

  • I think there is deliberately 5 digits, kinda like the fake 555 phone numbers :)

I remember this ad vaguely! It wouldn't be too early, if I can remember it.

  • i didnt realise pin numbers used to be 5 numbers...
