Mental illness and addiction have no boundaries and affect people from all walks of life. Mental health and addiction treatment services play an important role in supporting Ontarians. Stigma and access are the main challenges for people living with mental illness and addiction. In Ontario, one million people will experience a mental illness, but only 20% will get help. Currently, hospitals, government, community mental health and addiction treatment agencies, and Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) have the opportunity to improve integration and create a mental health and addiction system that is truly welcoming, comprehensive, coordinated, based on best practices and accessible - not only geographically - but across the client's lifespan and the continuum of care.
