  • this reminds me of the old 688 game back in the 90s..i loved the Soviet Alpha..id run into a battle group at 45knots fire off all my torpedoes and usually outrun the Mk 48s id be dropping noise makers and putting knuckles in the water worked alot of the time..the 688 required more patence and skill the Alpha was just a speed demon

  • is this with or without mods?

  • Soviets didn't have those missiles in 1972.

  • to be honest the game has some retarded things for a simulator for example the sudden dive the submarine does in 3:30 -> that's impossible for any sub...

  • bad

  • @f3hdemon they were gonna make a harpoon version of this type called Harpoon 4, but it never got to fruition... and this is my only problem really, cause alot of these so called graphical type Naval warfare games, dont follow what was in Harpoon 3 and before.. with regards to in the actuality of how it would be done, like in real life.. seriously tho I really do look forward to actual real scenarios as well as fictional, that looks like the actual thing. this does not!!

  • I'd have already establisted my CAP's and AEW at the offset, of course, well before any torpedos were launched, so I wouldn't worry too much about air threats. The bottom line? When I know there's a sub in the water, it may get a torpedo or missiles off, but it is going to the bottom.

  • The moment that there was a torpedo in the water, assuming that you have no air and surface assets, I'd have placed four S-3's on Alert 5 (I generally keep a minimum of two on Alert 15 and the remaining on Alert 30) and launched as soon as possible. Again assuming that you have no air asssets, I'd have launched my remaining S-3's immediately thereafter, along with my SH-40's (depending upon your proximity).

  • I see that if I ever encounter you, I'll need to launch several Vikings and Seahawks? LOL. It is difficult to tell, but did you have any surface ships, or air assets to locate the Battlegroup, or did you rely solely upon passive sonar?

  • @Cnupoc

It was released in 1999, I believe? Great strategy game and these days, most ADD and ADHD people out there wouldn't have the patience to play it. It is a slower pace than the first person shooter games. There can be some intense action at times, though. It is really a fantastic game. Janes needs to produce an updated version with better graphics, but retaining the same strategy format.
