This is an actress trained in musical theatre performing an excerpt from the show ie in character. Its grossly unfair to compare this performance to Susan Boyle's original and subsequent performances. Listen to the original stage recording of 'Whistle Down the Wind' and the Tina Arena version and you will see a similar difference.
I don't think anyone could say that Susan Boyle is an amateur these days. Her recent performance of 'Wild Horses' showed a restrained and polished performance.

This is so amazing...Susan Boyle's voice is good, but she doesn't sing it with this kind of soul. I really want to do it for my school's cabaret this year, but I doubt I could pull it off. I'd be compared to Susan Boyle, who I'm not as good as, and I'm not as good as...THIS.

You are absolutely right. I can now hear and feel the difference when I hear both women sing this song. Susan Boyle is very talented but this lady has an incredible reach with her voice and use of tension while it doesn't show how much effort it cost her. You can tell with Susan Boyle that she has to try much harder, but still she is of course a talented amateur. :)

dontDoDrugs09 simply is dead wrong. Susan Boyle is an incredibly talented amateur, but this woman is polished, accomplished professional. Listen to her pitch placement, her diction, her use of chest voice, and the dramatic tension in the song. Beautiful!
