Leading Animal Behaviourist, Dr David Sands, investigates the Scottish Suicide Bridge at Overtoun to help research and understand why dogs were being recorded as leaping to their death. This is an 'edit taster' for the documentary. Please note many aspects were researched. Dr Sands knows dog do not commit suicide.
Combination of scent, owner family cues (looking over bridge), curiosity and sight blocked.

did they actually bring a dog there so that they could film it falling to its death?

  • @kummandurtutpik Don't be silly. Of course not. There is CGI involved. What planet are you on?

  • @kummandurtutpik Nooooo. It's CGI. See part two made by Tiger for NatGeo

  • If you had eyes on the bridge - actual or CCTV you would see poeple, animals and food sents being laid on the bridge including the side walls of the bridge. Dogs live in a world of smells rather than our human world of sight first then other sences. Some dog breeds have a greater sence of smell than other dogs, working gun dog breeds, police and military dogs, however some dogs are Gaze hounds that detect movement using eye sight as there primary sence, eg. greyhounds, whippets:

  • @defender90td5 This is what is covered in the FULL documentary. NATGEO CHANNEL have updated for Wild Files currently being shown on Satellite TV.

  • They should just put up catch nets so when the dogs head over they are caught.

  • @kummandurtutpik hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you're a fucking crazy retard? xD

  • When you did the "smell test" don't you think that the dogs after the first one just followed the other dogs scent?

  • I wonder if that bridge works on toddlers and small children...

  • My sister and I were reading up about this..i think Its really strange and pretty creepy, I mean poor dogs and why certain types? & smell? I dont know about that, I mean I guess. I just idk its kinda wierd that the dogs would do that

  • @funnynickname yes the sound was freaky

  • how can you put squirrel smell on a jar lol

  • I read a lot more about this bridge before watching this. Apparently there was a witness report of a dog that had jumped off, survived, climbed back up to the bridge and then jumped off again. Also, the death count of the dogs goes WELL into the hundreds, not fifty...

  • @kummandurtutpik haha em no its just CGI

  • @GetMeThere1 I agree. It really looks like there is ground on the other side. The dogs don't kill themselves. They are fooled by the optical illusion. Once they jump over at a running speed, they can't stop before it's too late. It's a rare combination of specific visual conditions and high precipice. The dog doesn't understand that it is standing on a bridge. Case solved.
