  • Thank you! I'm happy to hear that it was helpful. $25 to get the bearing pressed sounds like a great price to me. The job was much easier than I realized too.

  • OK - that last post won't make much sense. I was trying to post a link to a forum where a very helpful guy showed how to make a tool out of a long threaded rod & some big washers but I keep getting errors when I include the URL.

Try searching at PTCruiserLinks under the tech & performance forum for a post titled "Wheel Bearing Replacement" and go to the top of page 2. A fellow named "Uptown Sport" has a great write up for replacing the bearing without a press.

    Good luck and God bless!

  • Another alternative is to make a tool out of large washers & a long threaded rod.

  • If it's sounding really bad, I'm not certain I'd trust it much longer. I'm especially afraid to let them go too long if it's a front bearing that's bad.

Without access to a press, your best bet may be to find a machine shop.

  • Very well done! ..Thank you very much for posting this video Poncho, I have a 05 Neon, and now I feel confident I can remove and replace the steering knuckle now that I know what is involved...I will have to get the bearings pressed for me, but fortunately we have a Pep Boys near by that will do it for $25 per bearing.

  • hey i have a 2005 pt and my bearing is sounding really bad. is there any way to work around using the push tool? and do you know about how long im able to drive on a bad bearing?
