Simba and Scar — Hell (Lion King AMV)

This was the first time I participated in an AMV contest, and my video won first place in the Best Action main category! Thanks to The AMV Alliance for inviting me to their Disney AMV contest, I'll be sure to participate again in the future!

This is my first Lion King AMV. Why Lion King, you ask? Because I recently re-watched all three films, and that's something I haven't done for at least 10 years. Now that I'm old enough to appreciate the full artistic genius of it, I realized that I needed to make at an AMV out of it.

This is also the first time I used a heavy metal song. Now, I don't usually listen to heavy metal, but there's something rare about Disturbed that I don't see in a lot of metal bands. Still, it was a bit of a risk since I didn't have a lot of experience with making "dark" videos, but I think it worked out pretty well. Oh yeah, and I first heard this song by watching Raggedstar's AMV. If you're a Silverwing fan, I strongly recommend you watch her video, because she has got some serious talent.

Anyway, this AMV has a loose explanation of basically what happens in The Lion King. I don't think I'll be spoiling it for anyone, since just about everyone has watched The Lion King. If you haven't, you probably shouldn't be reading this. Basically, Simba has returned to Pride Rock for the first time since the death of his father Mufasa many years ago. After finding out that Scar was responsible for the whole thing, Simba becomes enraged and wants to kill him out of revenge. Yet he tries to hold himself back to retain his sanity. In the end, Scar attacks him and forces Simba to kill him. The video ends with Zira plotting her revenge for Scar's death.

You might have also noticed that I put in a lot of red "tinging" in the video to give it a more suitable look to match the mood. But some parts of it you'll see were originally in the movie, others I had to touch up. See if you can figure out the difference between the two.

Yes, I'll most likely be making another Lion King AMV, except more focused on the second film. It's probably not going to be a heavy metal song though.

Oh yeah, and I made a new OPE intro. Figured I might as well, seeing as I've more or less moved on from making just Redwall AMVs now.

Interesting note: I started working on this video way before I knew that the Lion King was coming out in 3D, or heard about Disturbed's upcoming release of The Lost Children.

Wow, the Lion King is a real classic. I remember watching it when I was 4. Love the song too, you did a great job all around! Make more metal AMVs, you don't do it enough :)
