ALDF v. Keating: Welcome Gracie!

At 9 p.m. on May 21st, Lacy, the pregnant mare who was close to death when she was rescued from a North Carolina field, gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl. "Gracie" was named by Animal Legal Defense Fund supporters.

Last December, Lacy, an Arabian mare, was close to death from colic and the burden of carrying a foal with no food or nutritional support. Her hipbones, backbone, and ribs were all protruding from her skin, indicating an advanced state of malnutrition and starvation. She was rushed to the North Carolina State College School of Veterinary Medicine for critical care.

I know ALDF won the case, but im still confused?? If they are not supposed to be around, or own ANY animals for 10 years.. Then WHY do they still have animals?? With there history they should ALL have been taken after the victory. I dont think ALDF is enfocing there victory, they starved there horses, there dogs are next....

All of the surviving horses were seized from the Keatings and are now in ALDF's custody. Two of the rescued mares, Lacy and Diva, were pregnant at the time of their rescue and have since given birth to two beautiful healthy girls who are also in the custody of ALDF and being cared for by the United States Equine Rescue League. Judy Keating has 4 other animals. She has a yellow lab, a white German shepard that limps constantly, a black lab mix, and they have a cat. Why havent these animals been taken? Gayle Keatin has SEVRAL dogs, and maybe even a couple cats. If she agreed then why havent you taken the other animals? She also keeps 2 horses at her boyfriends house. They are in HORRIBLE condition. Apparently you are not enforcing the law with the other animals she has. poor things.

This precious life would never have made it into the world had it not been for all of you and your incredible work. Thank you for what you do! I have been following this case, since I'm on your email list for updates, and had worried that Lacy wouldn't be able to carry this foal to term, or that the foal would have problems from the months of starvation. You saved them both in the nick of time! She is simply precious, and so very lucky. Bless you all for everything you do.
