A very unique camera system was developed for Avatar the gives the camera operater a huge range of perseption and focal depth options , it sees in stereo in a very natural way , as 3D film makers learn how to create content that "adds up" to our brain, and is easy to watch on a bright screen (very important as many cinemas dont throw enougth light at the issue and this makes 3D films dark and hard to watch) Bad 3D conversions will kill the format, recent films like Hugo make it shine.

btw: At my first 3D movie I was forced to close one eye for few minutes to rest my brain. And I do CG modeling for living! :)

Even if your eye site is 100% it will take some time to train your brain to process it. S-3D is asking your brain to cross eyes on objects that seem at different dept but aye muscles are always focused on movie screen that stays at constant distance from you. Because of that your brain will need time to learn how to read S3D movie properly. Also... Sensory input on brain is higher than normal, it will require some mental training to handle all that data.

Stereo 3d adds a lot to movie if done properly. Like in Coraline, or make it disaster like in Ice Age 3. For me Ice Age 3 was much better in 2D.
I really like S-3D if done properly!
But there is one big problem with S3D.There many people that can not enjoy it properly because good depth perception is necessary. Basically.. if you have some specific problems with eye site you will not see much of depth or you will be incomparable watching it. Over that , wearing 3D glasses is not definition fun.

Haha "It adds no depth to the movie..."
Isn't the point to add depth to the movie
There is such a thing as special effects for their own sake - think "Star Trek: the Motion Picture", or "Battlestar Galactica - in SENSURROUND!" Up till now, 3D movies have been a bit like that - 3D for the sake of it - but not Avatar. At no point do you get the feeling that someone in editing said, "Hey, let's make this leap out at them... that'll make'em jump!" Rather, the 3D just shows everything that is there to be seen, with the added dimension of depth. Spot on, really.

yes! I just saw avatar last weekend and was completely blown away by it. The 3D was perfectly used to immerse you into the world of Pandora.
It was definitely one of the best movie experiences i've ever sat through

I saw the 3d preview, and its not like all the crappy 3d. it feels like real life, nothing is popping out at you. it looked amaizing i want every movie from now on to be 3d like avatar.

Agree about the 3-d, cause it makes the movie look dumb, and the effect looks dumb to begin with,
i don't know what movie started the craze, but everyone followed suit after that.
i mean it costs a lot more ot make it 3D, and like 3 dollars extra on a movie ticket, wtf?
this is Will btw if you didn't know.
