I think it's fair to mention that Harrwitz was an absolute genius, not only for beating Morphy (who, ofcourse, was a genius as well), but you should also take the age difference into consideration. Harrwitz didn't win by attacking, but by defending in a perfect way (yes ''perfect'', even todays modern chess engines calculate most of his defensive moves against Morphy's attacks as absolutely brilliant). He even beat Morphy when playing with black!! He wasn't French by the way, he was German.

staunton didn't quest to avoid morphy. staunton realised he would have to take time off work to practise but he could not leave or legal action would have been taken against him. and morphy could have played him at birmingham but was pesuaded not to.

l agree with KalkiAwaits 100%...lt was truly an absolute pleasure to watch this. l loved the almighty King's Gambit game...as l told KalkiA before, Morphy is the reason l love playng it! l also loved the choice of music!. l just wish the vid didn't have to end! l'll be waiting for part 3! much appreciation for your vid...we'll fibd a way to promote these great videos!!
