@LonSeidman That is NOW and WHERE YOU LIVE. Things are changing.
I don't want to see brownout and blackouts in the future.
Not true? You mean that USAToday lying ?
One more thing, if these cars were such a good deal, why the 7000 bucks
"Incentive"? And who is paying for this money? The government?
If it is, it's you and me, through our taxes, if you are among the minority that actually PAYS taxes that is. FOR NOW, I'll stay with my petrol only powered car...

What is your electricity bill?
Imagine how many power plants will have to be built f A LOT of people decide
to get electric cars...
In the United States most of the electric power comes from COAL BURNING power plants, which pollute A LOT ! And it is radioactive pollution !
Doubt me ? Read a US Government web page ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/rev26
-34/text/colmain.html and check for yourself...

@hjbpnb The first thing you need to do is to not trust anything the 'us government' writes on their web pages. Just don't read any of it.
-
@dannytroy Why do you think there are so few circulating?
It's because most people see it's a big lemon GM is trying ton push
to the public. If it was that good the government wouldn't have to subsidize the
car with 7.000 dollars ... It's just not worth it.

@4NZZZ454CATEngine It's like the nationally syndicated radio talk show host
Michael Savage says: "Liberalism is a mental disorder". Check his
website michael savage DOT com . It is interesting: no matter how many facts
are exposed (and I've seen a lot of websites being referred to above ), liberals
just don't care, they just go by their "feelings" no matter how far from reality/crazy they are. It's sad to see them being taken advantage of. I really feel bad for them

@hjbpnb He said that his electricity bill was $1.50 full charge. but, he is incorrect. the electric bill goes sky high when charging it. this liberal guy has to troll somewhere else. LOL.

@LonSeidman now there is 8,000 volts that are catching on fire right after they crash in crash test. I mean, the Mercury is not a fuel intake pain. you're thinking that i am in 70's vehicles. we actually have a 11' Grand Marquis with great fuel mileage, up to 24-30 MPG. we are easy on the throttle. also, the digital ball on the dash of this car, it makes you a more dangerous driver when you pull out in a 55 mph in front of a fast vehicle, the driver will be irritated and will blow your ass away.

@Addicted2Saab the Nissan leaf is good for city commutes look at coda automotive , their batteries has a range of about 100 miles. but they are bad for long journeys. European cars are too expensive, parts are a fortune. good for the executive, but not the average owner. american cars eg GM batteries are partnered with LG to make them. watch out for the Korean car makers too.

Just found this on the web: "Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up to $250K Per Vehicle" at
michigancapitolconfidential (DOT) com/16192
Who'd think ...
February 2 Capital One will award a lucky custumer with one of this. I hope I win it.
I didn't know this car was so cool.
But, the battery stuff is kind of a let down, I feel like driving this car is like watching for your battery life in your cellphone or laptop. You're always afraid you run out of juice.

@hubergeek If the car was electric only you'd have that problem. Thankfully the car will switch to gas when it runs out of electricity and it can keep going so long as there's gas in the tank. I get about 35-40 mpg on it when I'm on the highway.

@hjbpnb Yeah and it's not like we've been subsidizing the oil industry with billions in investment and tax credits.

Check usatoday (dot) com/money/industries/energy/story/2011-12-13/electric-bills/51840042/1?loc=interstitialskip The US gov is actively DEcommisioning coal burning power plants
responsible for +- 30% of our electricity.
IF electricity from wind and solar was good cost/benefit-wise, the Chinese have it. rather than building & putting online one coal burning power plant per week
( this was about 2 years ago, don't have the #s now ). We won't have enough electricity if a lot of Volts are sold.
hp19501990 2 months ago
@hp19501990 Not true.. There's a lot of excess capacity at night when most people charge their vehicles.

One more question how does this car do on road trips with kicking the gas motor on and off. I guess what I am really trying to ask is how is the mpg on a trip compared to driving back and forth to work a 30 mile round trip.
specialk18701 2 months ago
@specialk18701 It's pretty good. I average about 35-38 mpg depending on how hard I'm driving it. If you do a lot of long range driving a diesel volkswagen might be a better choice given it has better fossil fuel mileage.
