more story:
"Russian Military Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that one of the United States most secretive spy satellites, the KH-13, targeting Iran was 'destroyed in its orbit' with its main power generator powered by the radioactive isotope Pu-238 surviving re-entry and crashing in a remote region of the South American Nation of Peru, and where hundreds are reported to be ill from radiation poisoning...."

  • WHAT? THAT'S CHUCK NORRIS FOOTPRINT, COME ON MAN !!!

  • The amazing work of a man and a shovel.

  • just chuck norris taking a pee.

  • I know anti-American rhetoric is pretty hot in South America right now, but this is ridiculous. Not only do people claim it was an American "spy satellite" but they have also somehow divined that it must have been spying on Iran. Intel satellites are almost always in very high orbits. A malfuctioning or destroyed satellite would most likely remain in a decaying orbit for many years.

  • When Columbia burned up during reentry, it broke up almost immediately and its debris fell accross a very wide area (across a few states). I know this first hand, since I saw it myself and even heard the sonic boom. There were several pieces that continued to break into smaller debris. Space shuttles are huge, but nothing from Columbia struck the ground with anything approaching the energy of the Peru impact.

  • The object which created this crater was most likely no more than 1 meter in diameter and extremely dense. Maybe 600 or 700 kilograms. Most likely candidate is an Iron-Nickel meteorite. Essentially a solid chunk of metal striking the ground at high velocity. Were it a satellite, debris that could be recognized as man made would have been found in the vicinity.

  • Couldn't possibly have been a satellite. A satellite falling out of orbit would almost certainly have broken up upon reentry. Most of the fragments would have burnt up harmlessly in the atmosphere. Most satellites are not very heavy to begin with. It's a virtual impossibility that anything from a satellite would have survived reentry with enough mass to create this crater.

  • omg, just some space debrea
